Man Utd looking for alternative left-back after Dorgu failure

Manchester United are considering activating their former player Alvaro Fernandez Carreras' release clause to bolster their left-back position. The move comes after the club struggled to secure Lecce star Patrick Dorgu.
Dorgu, who is also being tracked by Tottenham, was previously United's top transfer target. However, the Italian club twice rejected offers from the Red Devils for the 20-year-old, not wanting to let him go before the summer.
That has led United manager Ruben Amorim to turn his attention to Carreras, who has been in excellent form for Benfica this season. Carreras has made 31 appearances so far this season, scoring three goals and providing four assists. The Spaniard joined Benfica from Manchester United in the summer for €6m after a successful loan spell.
United have the option to bring the 21-year-old back by activating a €20m buy-back clause, which looks like a better deal than pursuing Dorga further.
United are currently 13th in the Premier League and are preparing for an away game against Fulham.
