Manchester United have been intent on signing Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt for some time now, and the Dutchman has hit the headlines again. But no longer because of transfer rumours.

While de Ligt's team are at a training camp in South Korea, the Munich club's centre-back has stayed in Germany. According to BILD, the player is now in close contact with the German police due to suspicions of a road traffic accident.

After one of the training sessions, de Ligt was leaving Bayern's training base and while doing so, he crashed into a parked car in his Audi Q8 e-tron. Unfortunately for the player himself, there were witnesses to the incident, who saw everything and reported to the police.

The factor of de Ligt's recognisability also played a role, because the suspect was immediately recognised. Soon the police stopped the Dutchman's car and drew up a protocol. Complicating matters is the fact that the player left the scene.

According to German law, de Ligt could face a prison sentence for attempted escape. But it is rarely applied, and it is highly likely that the Dutchman will simply pay a fine.

Earlier we reported on a deal that could favour the sale of the ex-Ajax defender to Manchester United.
