The revamped FIFA Club World Cup is just days away, and South Africa’s representative—Mamelodi Sundowns—is gearing up for the challenge. On Wednesday, June 11, the team was given a spectacular welcome in New York City.
Details: According to Soccer Laduma, the reigning South African champions were greeted right in the heart of New York—on Times Square. Mamelodi Sundowns appeared in a special video featuring DJ Khaled, in which the star artist congratulates the African side.
Quote: “Mamelodi Sundowns received yet another unique ‘welcome’ in the USA, appearing at the center of a special video with DJ Khaled on the iconic Times Square,” the statement read.
Mamelodi Sundowns will kick off their FIFA Club World Cup campaign late at night on June 18 at 00:00 Central European Time. In their group, the South African side will face Borussia Dortmund and Fluminense.
Reminder: Earlier, a computer analysis predicted Mamelodi Sundowns’ chances at the Club World Cup—from making the round of 16 to the final, including the probability of winning the entire tournament.
