Mamelodi Sundowns' Miguel Cardoso on their 2-2 draw against Al Hilal: We let ourselves down in this game as we missed a lot of chances to win the game
Miguel Cardoso says Mamelodi Sundowns have no one else to lay the blame on for the 2-2 draw against Al Hilal but to his team.
Cardoso said they only look within for the 2-2 draw in the Caf Champions League game played at Loftus Versveld on Friday night.
Teboho Mokoena scored a screamer with also Arthur Sales netting the other goal in a thrilling game under the Pretoria skies.
“Fortunately, we can only complain ourselves, so many formations created and couldn’t score a winning goal and I think they entered our box two times and scored, pretty naïve from our defence,” Cardoso told SABC Sport post-match.
“This is the level of football where you cannot make those kinds of things, you have to finish the game make the first goal, we had more than enough chances and then also we need to be clinical in the box.
“This is really serious too serious in terms of responsibility and incapacity to score, and just that because we played the game, we controlled, we had total control. I think we had more than enough today to have a victory.
“We cannot expose ourselves to be penalised by one situation, there was nothing more on the game rather than that situation.
“The game was there but didn’t play the way you had to play, we scored a goal, but we knew we had to be cautious and patient that are situations you have to score.
“But suddenly you’re winning and you allow a goal like that and we created much more than we need to really leave the emotions out be clinical, make the goal as it should’ve happened there."
Sundowns are on top of their group with five points from one win and two draws.
