Mamelodi Sundowns Crush Sekhukhune United to Extend Premiership Lead

Mamelodi Sundowns stormed to a 4-2 victory over Sekhukhune United at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday night, further cementing their dominance at the top of the Betway Premiership table. The win, their 17th in 19 league matches, pushed them 15 points clear, edging them closer to an eighth consecutive PSL title.

Sundowns in Control

The defending champions took the lead in the 16th minute through Thapelo Morena, who controlled a precise pass from Jayden Adams before finishing past Badra Ali Sangare. However, a goalkeeping error by Jody February allowed Katlego Otladisa to equalize for Sekhukhune in the 35th minute.

Sundowns quickly restored their advantage when Lucas Suarez capitalized on a corner to head home in the 39th minute, giving the visitors a 2-1 halftime lead. The second half saw Lucas Ribeiro extend the advantage after pouncing on a defensive mistake in the 55th minute.

In the 66th minute, Arthur Sales, who had just come off the bench, made it 4-1 with a crisp finish from the edge of the box. Keletso Makgalwa gave Sekhukhune a consolation goal in the 70th minute, but it was too little, too late.

Sundowns March On

Sundowns' unrelenting winning streak makes their title challenge appear assured, even though the Orlando Pirates have four games remaining. The Brazilians will try to maintain their domination in their upcoming big matchup against Kaizer Chiefs.

As they look to bounce back from a difficult league loss, Sekhukhune will turn their attention to their Nedbank Cup Round of 16 matchup against Milford FC.
