Major triumph! Sweden U-20 national team crowned world junior ice hockey champions
The Swedes proved too strong for the Czechs in the final showdown.
Details: Last night in Minnesota, at the Grand Casino Arena, the final of the World Junior Ice Hockey Championship U-20 took place, featuring the national teams of Sweden and Czechia.
The match was entirely under Swedish control and, as a result, with four minutes left to play, Sweden led 3-0 thanks to goals from Eklund, Boumedienne, and Karlsson. However, the Czech team refused to give up; at 17:36 Adam Jiricek found the net to make it 3-1, and at the 19th minute Kubiesa narrowed the gap to 3-2.
But the upset was not to be. With just 20 seconds remaining, Sweden sealed the victory with a fourth goal as Stenberg scored into an empty net.
The final score: 4-2 in favor of Sweden, who are now the champions of the World Junior Ice Hockey Championship.
