Reports indicate that intermediaries included Emanuele Buttini and his partner Debora Ronchi, who offered well-known athletes the services of prostitutes at around €1,000 per encounter, keeping half the profits for themselves.
According to the investigation, there were cases where sex workers became pregnant by footballers, but they were met with threats and blackmail in an effort to protect the athletes' honor and reputations.
The authorities have not revealed the identities of all the athletes involved, but the scale of the accusations suggests that members of Italy's top clubs could be implicated.
