Major resignation in Turkey! Federation president fires Vincenzo Montella?

The national team's disastrous results in the elite division of the Nations League have led to the immediate termination of the head coach's contract.

Details: Turkish Football Federation (TFF) president İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu has decided to end the contract of Turkey national team head coach Vincenzo Montella ahead of schedule. This was reported by the respected Turkish outlet Milliyet.

The radical decision was prompted by the team's catastrophic results on the international stage: Turkey suffered four consecutive defeats in the UEFA Nations League, losing 1-3 to Italy in their most recent match. The tournament fiasco triggered a wave of criticism from experts and fans.

The federation's leadership concluded that the team needed an urgent reset and a change in its development strategy. In the coming days, the two sides will settle the financial formalities of the termination, after which officials will announce the name of the new coach.

It is worth noting that Vincenzo Montella had been in charge of Turkey since September 2023 and guided the team to an impressive run to the quarterfinals of Euro 2024 in Germany. However, the prolonged slump in form prevented the Italian from continuing in the role.
