Major public scandal! Carragher tears into Piers Morgan for defending Ronaldo
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher engaged in a public war of words with journalist Piers Morgan and Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand over their stance on Cristiano Ronaldo. The Englishman harshly criticized both men for trying to justify the Portuguese superstar’s behavior following his controversial departure from the Portugal national team.
“They are completely embarrassing themselves with the nonsense they are spouting. You cannot defend the indefensible,” Carragher said.
Morgan did not let the attack go unanswered and accused the former footballer of hypocrisy. The journalist brought up the 2011 scandal, when Liverpool backed Luis Suárez following a racist incident involving Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.
Carragher admitted that the Merseyside club’s stance in that situation was wrong and stressed that he had already apologized for what happened.
However, the conflict did not end there. In a post on the social network X, Carragher accused Morgan of bias because of his close relationship with Ronaldo. In the former defender’s view, his friendship with the Portuguese star prevents the journalist from assessing his actions objectively.
Carragher also claimed that Morgan is happy to criticize others but reacts badly to criticism directed at him, resorting to personal attacks and using conflicts to secure new interviews.
