Major Absentees and Surprises Mark CHAN 2024 Qualifiers

The results of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifications were rather unexpected. A number of significant countries did not qualify, hence the following teams will not be able to compete:
- Ivory Coast
Despite a 2-0 lead in the first leg, they were eliminated in a penalty shootout by Burkina Faso.
- Cameroon
After winning the first leg 1-0, they were overturned by the Central African Republic, who secured qualification.
- Ghana
Following a disappointing early exit from CAN 2024, Ghana's local team failed to progress, losing to Nigeria.
- Togo
Despite a 1-1 draw, Togo was eliminated by Niger after a goalless return leg.
- Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Tunisia, and Gabon
These major footballing nations have withdrawn from the competition, further opening up the field for other teams.
These absentees, combined with surprising eliminations, set the stage for an unpredictable and exciting CHAN 2024 tournament.
