Today, the BBC reported the passing of legendary referee Uriah Rennie.

Details: Uriah Rennie made history as the first black referee in the English Premier League.

According to the source, Rennie passed away at the age of 66.

From 1997 to 2008, Uriah Rennie officiated over 300 matches, including 175 Premier League fixtures.

The Jamaican-born referee made his Premier League debut in 1997, when Derby County hosted Wimbledon.

The second black referee in the history of the English top flight appeared only 26 years later, in 2023—Sam Allison.
