Luton's captain, who experienced a cardiac arrest on the field, has been discharged from hospital
Luton Town's captain, Tom Lockyer, who suffered a cardiac arrest during the match against Bournemouth on December 16th, has been discharged from the hospital. The club confirmed that the 29-year-old defender is now at home and has commenced his rehabilitation process.
Lockyer lost consciousness during the second half of the match and received immediate medical attention before being taken to the hospital. He had an ICD (implantable cardioverter-defibrillator) implanted to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
This marks the second similar episode involving Lockyer. Previously, he fainted on the field during the Championship playoff final against Coventry City in May. It was then revealed that the 29-year-old was suffering from atrial fibrillation, a condition that can cause irregular or abnormally fast heart rhythms.
The match between Bournemouth and Luton was not completed due to the incident. Both teams left the field in the 60th minute with the score at 1-1. The Premier League's directive decided not to resume the match but to replay it entirely from the beginning. The rescheduled date will be announced later.
