Luis Díaz in the Spotlight After Controversial Assist Sparks Moyes’ Fury
Luis Díaz stole the spotlight in the latest Merseyside derby, not only for his standout performance but for his controversial involvement in the decisive goal that sealed Liverpool’s 1–0 win over Everton. The Colombian winger assisted Diogo Jota, but the build-up to the goal raised serious questions from Everton’s bench.
Manager David Moyes was furious post-match, claiming Díaz was offside and interfered with the defensive play. “Luis Díaz is clearly offside. He comes from behind and disrupts Tarkowski. I’m shocked it wasn’t called,” Moyes told reporters, as cited by FutbolRed.
The VAR upheld the goal, ruling that Díaz’s position did not directly influence the sequence. Moyes, however, strongly disagreed. “It’s a simple decision. The assistant is right in line and should have flagged it. I don’t think the officials had a good night overall,” he added.
Despite the controversy, Díaz received widespread praise and was named man of the match for his performance. His pace and creativity troubled Everton’s defense throughout the game, reinforcing his importance in Liverpool’s title chase.
The win keeps Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table. Next up for Díaz and the Reds is a Sunday showdown against Fulham, where the Colombian will look to silence critics and once again prove decisive in the final stretch of the season.
