Lopetegui close to taking charge of Belgium national team
Just under two weeks after being dismissed by West Ham, Julen Lopetegui may be set to take on a new role.
Details: According to Sasha Tavolieri, the Spanish coach is being considered by the Belgian Football Federation, which recently parted ways with Domenico Tedesco. It is believed that Vincent Mannaert, the sporting director of the "Red Devils," is a key supporter of Lopetegui’s potential appointment.
A final decision is expected to be made by the Belgium national team this weekend, as there are other candidates in the running, such as Thierry Henry.
Reminder: Lopetegui is no stranger to national team management, having worked with Spain’s youth teams from 2010 to 2014, and then as head coach of the senior team from 2016 to 2018.
Tedesco's departure could also pave the way for a potential return of Thibaut Courtois to the national team, as the Real Madrid goalkeeper had refused to play for Belgium due to his conflict with the former coach.
