Recent Ballon d’Or winner Rodri has plenty of time to reflect on his accolades off the pitch, as he recovers from a cruciate ligament injury sustained shortly before the award ceremony. The Spanish midfielder admitted that his rehabilitation process has been mentally draining.
Details: Rodri explained that some early-stage recovery exercises limited his ability to work under strain, which took a toll on him mentally.
Quote: "It’s a tough process—long and boring. Especially the first few months, when I couldn’t put weight on my leg and the exercises were less engaging. You couldn’t do much or put any strain on the leg.
Once you start walking, it becomes more enjoyable and fun, incorporating activities like cycling, walking, and swimming. It gets better, but at the beginning, it’s quite exhausting," Rodri told Sport Witness.
Reminder: The midfielder previously stated that he hopes to return to the pitch later this season.
