Liverpool won their first match under their new manager
This summer brought significant changes for Liverpool. Arne Slot has taken the managerial seat, replacing the legendary Jürgen Klopp. Today marked the first match for the Merseyside club under the new coach.
In preparation for the new season, Liverpool traveled to the United States for a series of friendly matches. Their first opponent was the Spanish club Real Betis.
Though a friendly, the match was quite engaging. The teams made sixteen attempts on goal, with only four on target.
Both coaches managed their players carefully. Liverpool started with a near full-strength squad, but Slot gradually made substitutions, resulting in a completely different lineup by the 64th minute.
The only goal of the match was scored by Dominik Szoboszlai, following an excellent combination play with Mohamed Salah in the 34th minute.
However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for the English team. Curtis Jones sustained an injury in the 30th minute and had to be substituted. The severity of his injury is currently unknown.
The newly appointed Liverpool manager expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance after the match.
During their US tour, Liverpool has three more matches scheduled. They will play against Arsenal on August 1, followed by a match against Manchester United on August 4, and conclude the tour with a game against Sevilla on August 11.
