Liverpool is closely monitoring Bayer's central defender Piero Hincapié, according to Goal.com. Reportedly, the 21-year-old Ecuadorian could offer a solution to Liverpool's defensive woes, particularly at the heart of their defense, under the guidance of the club's manager Jurgen Klopp.
However, securing the player in the winter transfer window could prove to be quite challenging. Given that the defender's contract with Bayer expires in the summer of 2027, there are indications that the German club might not be inclined to release him for a small fee. With a clause in the player's contract valuing him at around 70 million euros, it seems unlikely that Liverpool would engage in such lavish spending in January.
Moreover, Liverpool may face tough competition from several top-tier clubs, all eyeing the Ecuadorian. Milan, Newcastle and Roma are among those expressing interest in having the player in their ranks.
Hincapié has been part of Bayer since 2021. Representing the pharmaceutical club, the Ecuadorian international has played 91 matches and scored three goals. In the current season, the versatile defender has featured in 15 matches across various competitions.
It's worth noting that Liverpool previously suffered a long-term setback with the absence of experienced central defender Joel Matip, whose return to the field is not expected until earlier than the summer.
