Liverpool's defender, Joel Matip, faces a potential lengthy absence from football. He sustained an injury during an EPL match against Fulham (4-3) last weekend.

The 32-year-old defender suffered a knee ligament injury. The club is awaiting the results of an MRI, but initial assessments don't look optimistic. There's a chance the Cameroonian could be out for several months.

“You can imagine it doesn’t look great. It is never good news [when a doctor says that immediately]. I’ve never had that in all my years where someone says: ‘Oh my God, it’s completely wrong and there’s nothing wrong, he can play tomorrow.’ It doesn’t happen”, - told Jurgen Klopp.

This season, Matip, an experienced player, has appeared in 14 matches for Liverpool across all competitions. The fixture against Fulham marked his 150th appearance for the club in the Premier League.

Klopp's team currently holds the second position in the Premier League after 14 matches. They trail Arsenal by five points and have the chance to narrow the gap if they secure a victory against Sheffield today. Liverpool will play against the Blades at 20:30 Central European Time.
