Liverpool star's parents were kidnapped in Colombia
The parents of Liverpool's forward, Luis Diaz, were abducted in Colombia. On Saturday afternoon, local time, the car of Luis Manuel Diaz and Silenis Marulanda was intercepted by kidnappers on motorcycles as they were heading to their neighborhood in Los Olivos, Barrancas, the hometown of the Liverpool player, as reported by Semana.
There is an alternative version suggesting that Luis's parents were kidnapped while watching a football match when the abductors stormed into their vicinity. Colonel Giovanni Cristancho, the director of Colombia's Gaula police division, responsible for handling kidnappings and hostage rescues, promptly arrived at the scene to take control of the situation. It was also reported that the military and the police joined forces and initiated coordinated operations to search for the footballer's parents. Police checkpoints were established to identify individuals moving on motorcycles in the area.
Due to police pressure and military actions, Luis Diaz's mother was subsequently freed unharmed. However, the Liverpool star's father remains missing. A source informed Semana, "The mother is with us, she is healthy, but scared, everything is fine with her. The father was taken on a motorcycle. They pulled him out of the car and took him somewhere along the road."
Luis Diaz could have been included in Liverpool's starting lineup for today's Premier League match against Nottingham Forest. Nevertheless, as his father is still in the hands of the kidnappers, his participation in the game appears unlikely.
Earlier today, ahead of the match, the club released the following statement: "Liverpool Football Club can confirm it is aware of the situation involving Luis Diaz's family in Colombia. We sincerely hope this matter is resolved safely and swiftly. In the meantime, the well-being of the player will remain our immediate priority."
