Liverpool Legend Faces Backlash Over Salah Criticism
Following his recent remarks about Mohamed Salah's unclear future with the Reds, Jamie Carragher, a veteran of Liverpool, has come under fire for his criticism of the player. After Liverpool's 3-2 victory over Southampton, Salah, whose contract expires at the end of the season, implied that his exit was more possible and that the club had not made an offer.
Carragher labeled Salah’s remarks as “self-centered” during his analysis on CBS Sports, stating, “I understand the argument for renewing his contract, but when players reach 30+, negotiations usually happen closer to the end of their terms. Speaking publicly about this doesn’t help anyone.”
The Liverpool great also added that players like Salah and Virgil van Dijk, who rarely suffer injuries, could merit two-year extensions despite the club’s policy for veterans.
However, when host Kate Abdo mentioned that he would be willing to leave Liverpool if a renewal offer didn't come through, Carragher was immediately reminded of his own similar public remarks in 2010. Carragher seemed to contradict his position on Salah's candor on his future after the acerbic reminder.
As debates over Salah’s future intensify, Carragher’s remarks have only fueled the ongoing conversation.
