Liverpool and Man United hunt 18-year-old diamond
The battle for one of Wolves' brightest young talents is already gathering serious momentum.
Details: According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool and Manchester United are continuing to monitor 18-year-old Wolverhampton forward Mateus Mané this season. Both English giants have been long-term admirers of the youngster, while Liverpool also made contact during the closing days of the summer transfer window to explore whether a deal could be possible.
Wolverhampton made their position clear and refused to entertain a summer departure. Liverpool considered both a permanent transfer and a potential buy-and-loan-back arrangement, but Wolves were determined to keep Mané at Molineux as they fight for promotion back to the Premier League.
The competition is not limited to England. Porto, Sporting CP and Benfica are also keeping close tabs on the forward. Mané himself was not pushing for a transfer and his camp believes that a full season of regular senior football with Wolves could be the best step for his development before the biggest clubs return for him.
It is worth noting that Mané previously collected seven appearances for England U18 before switching his international allegiance. UEFA currently lists the 18-year-old with two appearances for Portugal U21, while Transfermarkt estimates his market value at €20 million.
