Lionel Messi makes unexpected visit to Azerbaijan: what's the reason?

Football legend Lionel Messi surprised the world with an unanticipated visit to Azerbaijan, reports Footboom. The Argentine icon was accompanied by star teammates Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suárez during his trip to Baku.

The visit was tied to charitable endeavors. Messi and his entourage attended an event at Baku Crystal Hall, featuring the screening of a documentary about the footballer and performances by renowned artists, including Romanian band Morandi. The presence of Messi generated significant excitement, with tickets to the event quickly selling out.

During their stay, the football stars visited the Heydar Aliyev Center and paid tribute to Azerbaijan's national leader at his resting place by laying a wreath. Additionally, a fan meet-and-greet was organized, where some young supporters were brought to tears at the chance to see their idol up close.

“I have discovered the culture and the people of Azerbaijan. Greetings to everyone. Thank you for the warm attitude. Thank you very much for the support,” Messi expressed during his address at the event.
