Ligue 1 may end partnership with its broadcaster
In recent weeks, the LFP has been negotiating with its broadcaster about a new contract, and it seems their partnership may soon come to an end.
Details: According to L'Équipe, the presidents of the Ligue 1 clubs have decided to terminate the contract with DAZN at the end of the current season. They are demanding the broadcaster pay the clubs 140 million euros for this season, as well as compensation for the next. However, it's not certain that DAZN will agree to such terms. Ligue 1 clubs are aiming for a clean exit from the agreement.
Previously, it was reported that the LFP and DAZN have until April 10 to reach a new agreement. However, the Ligue 1 broadcaster intends to renegotiate the contract value — currently, it pays 376 million euros per season.
DAZN has only 500,000 subscribers for Ligue 1, prompting the platform to reconsider the deal signed last year, which runs until 2029.
Reminder: The Ligue 1 sponsor McDonald's, together with DAZN, launched a special promotion to attract new viewers. A special menu will be available in McDonald's restaurants across France, and the first 120,000 buyers of this set will receive a three-month subscription to Ligue 1 matches on DAZN.
