The French professional league struggles to negotiate with broadcaster. What's the issue?
Ligue 1 is facing challenges with its broadcaster, and the French Professional League is attempting to extend its partnership with the current partner.
Details: According to L'Equipe, the LFP and DAZN have until April 10 to finalize a new agreement. However, the Ligue 1 broadcaster aims to reduce the contract cost – currently paying 376 million euros per season.
At present, DAZN has only 500,000 subscribers for Ligue 1, prompting the platform to reconsider the contract signed last year, which extends until 2029.
While DAZN wishes to continue the collaboration, it insists on more favorable terms. Currently, two scenarios are possible: either the LFP agrees to revise the contract, or the parties terminate the agreement.
Reminder: Ligue 1 sponsor McDonald's, in collaboration with DAZN, launched a special promotion to attract new viewers. A special menu will appear in McDonald's restaurants throughout France, and the first 120,000 buyers of this set will receive a three-month subscription to Ligue 1 matches on DAZN.
