Lewis Hamilton gifts Mercedes team a special artwork to show appreciation
New Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton has expressed his gratitude to his former Mercedes colleagues after 12 years with the team. According to Daily Mail, the British driver commissioned a special painting as a farewell gift to his former coworkers.
Hamilton collaborated with renowned motorsport artist Paul Oz to create an oil painting depicting his car from the 2019 Monaco Grand Prix. The original artwork now hangs at Mercedes' headquarters in Brackley, while each of the team's 3,000 employees received a copy.
"My only remit was that I should focus on the car rather than Lewis, and so I chose to paint an image from Monaco 2019, just a few days after Niki Lauda passed and the team ran a red halo to remember Niki. Lewis stuck it on pole then dominated the race," Paul Oz explained.
Hamilton officially joined Ferrari at the end of 2024, signing a contract worth £50 million per year with the Italian team.
