"Let's be realistic": Roberto Martínez reveals why Alexander-Arnold wants to join Real Madrid
Portugal's national team coach, Roberto Martínez, stated that Trent Alexander-Arnold needs to move to Real Madrid if he wants to win the Ballon d'Or and achieve global recognition.
Quote: "In the past, we would have said that he is English and would stay at his club, finishing his career there. I don’t think this is the case anymore. English players enjoy challenges abroad. They feel that in order to win the Ballon d'Or or gain recognition from the football world, they need to go abroad.
If we look at the situation, there aren’t many players in the world with the same qualities as Trent who are available on a free transfer. Let’s be realistic: if Trent wanted to stay at Liverpool, he might have already signed a contract," Martínez said.
Reminder. Spanish publication Marca reported that Trent Alexander-Arnold has decided to move to Real Madrid. However, British media have denied this, claiming that the Liverpool defender has not yet made a final decision.
