Lеon Marchand is the person of the day at the 2024 Olympics according to Dailysports
On July 28, the second day of competitions at the Paris Olympics featured athletes contending for 13 sets of medals across various disciplines.
Events included shooting, mountain biking, judo, skateboarding, rowing, swimming, and fencing.
According to the Dailysports team, the person of the day was French swimmer Léon Marchand. The 22-year-old athlete, a five-time world champion, had previously failed to win medals at the Tokyo Olympics.
In today’s 400-meter individual medley swim, Marchand not only claimed the gold medal but also set a new Olympic record, improving Michael Phelps' 2008 time by nearly a second. Remarkably, the French swimmer finished 5 seconds ahead of his closest rival but fell short of breaking his own world record, which remains the fastest in the discipline.
