Legendary bowler Kane Richardson announces retirement
Richardson's time in professional cricket has come to an end.
Details: Today, 34-year-old Australian cricketer for the Sydney Sixers, Kane Richardson, announced his retirement from cricket at the conclusion of this season.
Richardson recently signed a one-year contract with the Sydney Sixers, but managed to play only two matches before announcing his decision to retire:
"I would like to announce my retirement from professional cricket at the end of this BBL season. Since my debut in 2009 until now, I feel I have given everything, and now is the right time to close this enjoyable chapter of my life," the Australian said.
Kane Richardson is one of the original BBL players, having competed for the Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades since the tournament's inaugural seasons. In the 2018-19 season, Richardson triumphed in the BBL.
Richardson finished the season ranked fifth in total wickets in BBL history, with 142 wickets at an average of 23.21 and an economy rate of 7.87.
Richardson also played 25 ODI matches and 36 T20 internationals for Australia. Additionally, Kane Richardson was part of the squad that won the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE, as well as a member of the team for the following World Cup held in Australia, and he featured in the 2019 ODI World Cup.
Richardson has also played in T20 leagues around the globe, including four seasons in the IPL, as well as stints in the T20 Blast, The Hundred, and ILT20.
