"It's better for everyone." PSG president speaks about the new Champions League format
This season, the Champions League introduced a groundbreaking format: instead of a group stage, 36 teams compete in a single league, with each club playing eight matches against eight different opponents. PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi shared his thoughts on the changes.
Details: According to the Qatari owner of the French champions, the new format has benefitted all stakeholders.
Quote:
"New UCL format? I think it's a much improved format for everyone.
See the rankings, the media, the fans... see the results of all the teams: more competition, more surprises, more involvement.
Finally, and everyone forgets it, more solidarity - €440m a year - for teams that don't even play in competitions".
Reminder: After five rounds, PSG has earned just four points and currently sits in 25th place, which leaves Luis Enrique's team outside the playoff zone.
