Athletic Bilbao has voiced its dissatisfaction that Barcelona, despite ongoing financial troubles, is still able to make expensive signings, and has called on La Liga to intervene. Blaugrana president Joan Laporta continues to respond with fiery rhetoric on the matter.
Details: The Catalan club boss stated that Barcelona is ready for a thorough financial audit, but at the same time demanded that the same evaluation criteria be applied to other clubs as well.
Quote: “Barcelona is ready—if an appropriate opportunity arises on the transfer market, including those involving release clauses—to take the necessary steps. We comply with all the requirements set by La Liga and financial fair play regulations to capitalize on the opportunities available in the market.
What Barcelona does concerns only Barcelona. La Liga knows that clubs’ financial statements must remain confidential. We have nothing to hide—let them audit our accounts, no problem, but then others should be judged by the same standards,” Laporta told ESPN.
