Laporta criticises FIFA and the international friendly calendar
The international break has come to an end, and for some players it proved costly, with several picking up injuries. Among them was Raphinha, much to the frustration of Barcelona’s hierarchy.
Details: Speaking to Mon Esport, Barcelona president Joan Laporta stated that Raphinha’s injury is a major setback and insisted that FIFA must take a more thoughtful approach to scheduling, as the current calendar is deeply frustrating.
Quote: "FIFA must structure its calendar with the understanding that these players represent major clubs. It was a friendly match, and one of the team’s best players picked up an injury. Of course, it’s frustrating.
You cannot blame the players. They are professionals and give everything for their country. The problem lies in the overloaded schedule, at a point in the season when we are competing for everything. It’s frustrating," Laporta said.
We previously reported that Raphinha had officially requested permission from the club’s management to remain in Brazil. The reason is not only a physical injury but also the player’s fragile emotional state.
Reminder: The release clause for 28-year-old Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, agreed during his loan spell at Barcelona, remains in effect.
