Lando Norris and the McLaren team were evacuated from their base due to a fire. What is known?
Currently, Formula 1 drivers are preparing for the Spanish Grand Prix qualifying session. However, for Lando Norris from McLaren and his team, preparations were interrupted by an unfortunate event.
Today, a fire broke out in the Team Hub hotel complex where Norris and his team were staying. Norris was still in the building at the time and was immediately evacuated.
Marshals nearby rushed into the building with fire extinguishers while waiting for the arrival of firefighters. According to Daily Mail reports, the marshals were taken away by ambulance afterwards, as they were in the heart of the fire without proper respiratory protection.
Once the firefighters and ambulance arrived, the fire was extinguished, and there were no reports of injuries. Lando Norris, along with his teammate Oscar Piastri, headed to the garages located 100 yards from the fire to participate in the training session.
Following the incident, McLaren issued a statement confirming the event and reporting that the entire team was successfully evacuated:
"This morning we evacuated our unit from the Team Hub hotel complex following a fire alarm. The team was safely evacuated. The local fire department is dealing with the issue."
Despite this minor incident, the third practice session at the Circuit de Catalunya proceeded as planned.
