As reported by Doble Amarilla, the Copa Argentina clash between Instituto and Huracán, scheduled for 7:45 p.m. this Thursday at Newell’s Old Boys’ Coloso Marcelo Bielsa stadium, could be in jeopardy due to a union protest.

The UTEDYC (Union of Workers of Sports and Civil Entities) will gather at 2:00 p.m. outside the stadium to protest the dismissal of 14 Newell’s employees and the ongoing delay in wage payments. Union leaders stated that some staff members received only 30% of their May salary.

A union assembly is also planned at 2:30 p.m. at the club’s headquarters in Parque Independencia. UTEDYC warned that these actions could impact the organization of the match later that evening.

Workers recently met with club president Ignacio Astore, but said they were offered no firm payment plan. Instead, they claim to have received layoff notices, which they see as a form of pressure. Club officials admitted financial difficulties and promised to pay the remaining 70% of May’s salaries in the coming days.
