Following the postponement of the Rayo Vallecano vs Oviedo clash in the Spanish La Liga, another match scheduled for Saturday, February 7, has also been called off. This time, it's the Sevilla vs Girona fixture, as officially confirmed by both clubs.
Sevilla released a statement, stressing its full support for the measures taken by the authorities, emphasizing that fan safety remains the top priority. Many supporters had planned to travel from afar, and due to severe weather conditions and the state of regional rivers, the trip could have posed serious risks.
From the outset, taking into account the weather forecast, the club was prepared to cooperate with the relevant authorities and support any measures they deemed necessary. We understand that canceling the match was the only right decision to protect our fans, the club noted.
Sevilla also expressed solidarity with everyone affected by the series of storms sweeping across the Andalusian region and thanked all parties for their understanding.
Girona announced on their official channels that the match will take place tomorrow, February 8, at 16:15 local time.
