The La Liga management has officially announced the postponement of the match between Rayo Vallecano and Oviedo, which was scheduled for today at 14:00 Central European Time.
Details: The decision was made at the last minute to protect the physical well-being of the players. An inspection determined that the current condition of the playing surface at the Vallecas stadium did not guarantee the safety of the participants.
The incident stemmed from an unsuccessful attempt by the Madrid club to quickly renovate the pitch. Over the past week, Rayo Vallecano had been completely replacing the turf, but extreme weather conditions and relentless rain prevented the grass from taking root. According to meteorologists, heavy showers are expected to continue in the coming hours, making it absolutely impossible to play the match.
In its official statement, La Liga noted that the club did everything possible to prepare the field and that the league had been constantly monitoring the process. However, by Saturday morning it became clear: the pitch had turned into a danger zone, with an unacceptably high risk of injury for the players.
Reminder: Joan Laporta slammed Real and the referees after the match against Rayo Vallecano.
