Kun Khalifa FC Announce Withdrawal from 2025/26 NPFL Over Alleged Unfair Sanctions
Kun Khalifa FC have officially announced their withdrawal from the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), citing what they described as unfair and excessive sanctions imposed by the league authorities.
The Owerri-based club made the announcement on Wednesday through a statement issued by their Chief Executive Officer, Michael Amaefula. According to Amaefula, Kun Khalifa FC can no longer continue in a league system that, in his words, “disregards the challenges faced by its member clubs and prioritizes punishment over fairness and justice.”
“We write to express our utmost shock, disappointment, and outrage following the sanctions imposed upon our club,” the statement read.
The decision follows disciplinary measures handed down by the NPFL Board after Kun Khalifa FC failed to honour their Matchday 24 fixture against El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri.
As punishment, the club was sanctioned with a three-point deduction, a three-goal deduction, and a ₦10 million fine. Kun Khalifa FC described the penalties as harsh and unsympathetic, arguing that the league failed to properly consider the circumstances surrounding their inability to fulfill the fixture.
