Kobe Bryant's game-worn sneakers could fetch $600,000 at auction
A pair of Nike sneakers worn by NBA legend Kobe Bryant is set to go under the hammer at the renowned Sotheby's auction house. The shoes are expected to sell for up to $600,000, according to TMZ.
The sneakers were worn by Bryant on April 12, 2013, during the iconic game between the Lakers and the Warriors. These shoes hold historical significance as Bryant suffered a torn Achilles tendon during that game but remarkably stayed on the court to sink two free throws before leaving.
This moment has become a powerful symbol of Bryant's resilience and determination. Playing through the pain, Bryant's free throws tied the game with just three minutes left on the clock.
"There is no moment in Kobe’s career more emblematic of the 'Mamba Mentality' than the 'Achilles Game,' a testament to his unyielding commitment to excellence and competitive spirit," stated Brahm Wachter, Sotheby's head of streetwear and modern collectibles.
The auction for these rare and historic items is set to begin on February 7, 2025.
