Kirian Rodríguez of Las Palmas pauses career due to cancer recurrence

In an emotional press conference, Las Palmas midfielder Kirian Rodríguez announced that he is stepping away from football following devastating news.
Details: The Spanish club shared Rodríguez’s statement, in which he confirmed that he must temporarily suspend his career due to a recurrence of his illness.
Quote: "Doctors have informed me that my cancer has returned. Now, I need to take a break to undergo the necessary treatment. I will begin chemotherapy to continue my fight against this disease," Rodríguez stated.
Back in 2022, Rodríguez was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He fought the illness for nearly a year and managed to overcome it, making his return to training in January 2023.
Last season, the midfielder made 38 appearances for Las Palmas, while in the current campaign, he has featured in 22 matches. Over the past year and a half, he has scored six goals and provided five assists.
Reminder: Legendary French defender and 1998 World Cup winner Bixente Lizarazu recently revealed that he has been battling a rare mental illness.
