Real Madrid has announced the list of players traveling to Munich for the Champions League quarterfinal second leg. The biggest and most surprising news is the omission of central defender Raúl Asensio. Despite the 23-year-old Spaniard playing the full 90 minutes last Friday against Girona and having no medical issues, head coach Álvaro Arbeloa and his staff have decided to leave him in Madrid.
Details: According to Marca, Asensio’s sudden exclusion is linked to a recent incident. The player and Arbeloa reportedly had a serious confrontation, after which the defender was forced to publicly apologize to the entire dressing room.
Evidently, the apology wasn’t enough: Raúl’s sudden “disappearance” from the squad for the most crucial match of the season only fuels speculation about his strained relationship with the coach and the possibility of a transfer in the upcoming window.
This decision looks especially puzzling given Real’s defensive shortage and the importance of the upcoming clash at the Allianz Arena.
Here’s the full Real Madrid squad list for tomorrow’s match:
Kick-off is scheduled for tomorrow, April 15th, at 21:00 Central European Time.
Reminder: Real Madrid forward Gonzalo García will leave the club this summer.
