Pule Mmodi scored Kaizer Chiefs' solitary goal in Zambia as Amakhosi earned their maiden win in the Caf Confederation Cup group stage game.
Mmodi scored via a rebound after striker Da Silva's header hit the post to see Chiefs move to four points in their three games so far.
They lost the first game against Egyptian side Al Masry, drew 1-1 against Zamalek and won against Zesco in Ndola.
They remain on the third place equal with Zamalek in their group.
This victory is historic for Chiefs as Zesco have created a slaughterhouse of sort in Ndola and have not lost a match at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
The return leg is next week in South Africa at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
