“Amakhosi” are looking to Nigeria for a solution to their goalkeeping woes.
Details: The Kaizer Chiefs management is unhappy with the performances of their current goalkeepers — Fiacre Ntwari, Bruce Bvuma, and Brandon Petersen. As a result, the club has started searching for a fourth goalkeeper who could become the first-choice and deliver consistently high-level performances.
The Chiefs have set their sights on 30-year-old Japhet Opubo from Lobi Stars, who plays in the Nigerian Premier League.
"There’s a possible new signing emerging from the western part of the continent. Japhet Opubo is a first-class goalkeeper who has made a name for himself in Nigeria over the past few seasons, and he could be a great addition to a big club like Kaizer Chiefs. His representatives are weighing their options, and there’s a chance he could be offered to Amakhosi," a Soccer Laduma source revealed.
This season, Opubo has kept two clean sheets in 12 Nigerian Premier League matches, and in the CAF Champions League, he matched that feat in four games..
