Kaizer Chiefs closing in on a major signing? Bafana Bafana star could arrive for absolutely nothing
Kaizer Chiefs could be preparing an exciting transfer surprise! The South African giants are reportedly moving closer to signing former Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana, who is currently available as a free agent. The potential arrival could provide a significant boost to their attacking options without requiring a transfer fee.
Details: According to Soccer Laduma, Chiefs have emerged as serious contenders for the 27-year-old attacker. Mokwana became available after leaving Tunisian giants Espérance in September 2026. His representatives have already offered his services to the Soweto club, which has been evaluating the financial and sporting aspects of a potential agreement.
Mokwana previously impressed in the Betway Premiership with Sekhukhune United before moving to Espérance in 2024. He later spent time on loan at Saudi Arabian side Al-Hazem. His experience in South African football means he would not need the same adaptation period as a player arriving from an unfamiliar league.
The winger's pace, dribbling and ability to create chances could offer Chiefs a much-needed attacking threat. Former club captain Itumeleng Khune has already publicly supported the idea, comparing Mokwana's playing style to that of former Amakhosi favourite Jabu Mahlangu.
Mokwana was also linked with Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca, but that proposed move failed to materialise. Chiefs now have an opportunity to strengthen their squad without paying a transfer fee. However, negotiations have not resulted in an officially announced agreement, and the player's next destination remains uncertain.
Reminder: Kaizer Chiefs were previously offered the chance to sign South Africa international Elias Mokwana as a free agent.
