Steven Gerrard did not hold back when discussing Lisandro Martínez.

Details: The Liverpool legend delivered a brutal response to the Manchester United defender during the latest Stick to Football discussion, taking aim at Martínez over his public criticism of the club's hierarchy.

Gerrard reminded the Argentine of Manchester United's previous Premier League match against Tottenham, when Dominic Solanke scored a stoppage-time equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford after winning the decisive duel against Martínez.

“He never spoke out after the game against Tottenham when he made a mistake which led to Solanke scoring. Just shut your mouth and defend!” Gerrard said.

The comments came after Martínez publicly criticised Manchester United's recruitment following the 2-0 Champions League defeat to Atlético Madrid. The defender said he had expected more investment and more support from those responsible for strengthening the squad, while also defending head coach Michael Carrick.

Gerrard's message was clear: before publicly pointing the finger at people above him, Martínez should first focus on his own responsibilities on the pitch. It is worth noting that the 28-year-old Argentine joined Manchester United from Ajax in July 2022 and has since won both the League Cup and the FA Cup with the club.
