Lisandro Martínez appears to be moving closer to the exit door at Manchester United.

Details: According to The Athletic, the Argentine defender does not want Manchester United to extend his current contract and is looking for a way out of Old Trafford. His existing agreement expires on June 30, 2027, although the English club have an option to keep him for another 12 months.

Manchester United have not made a final decision over the clause either. Reports indicate that the club also harbour doubts about whether activating the option and keeping Martínez until the summer of 2028 would be the right move.

The update comes during a turbulent week for the centre-back. Following Manchester United's 2-0 Champions League defeat to Atlético Madrid, Martínez publicly criticised the club's summer recruitment and said he had expected more support from those responsible for strengthening the squad.

Martínez remains part of Michael Carrick's first-team squad, but his contract situation now leaves both sides facing an important decision ahead of 2027. It is worth noting that the 28-year-old joined Manchester United from Ajax in July 2022 and has since won both the League Cup and the FA Cup with the club.
