Jannik Sinner will finish the calendar year as the world number one for the first time in his career
Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner will finish 2024 as the world’s number one in the ATP rankings. He became the first Italian to achieve this milestone, and only the 19th player in history to do so.
Details: Sinner secured his number one ranking by reaching the final of the Shanghai Masters, defeating Czech player Tomas Machac 6-4, 7-5. Ten days ago, he lost the final in Beijing to Carlos Alcaraz, but today he has another chance to lift a prestigious trophy.
His opponent in the final will be the legendary Serbian Novak Djokovic, who overcame Taylor Fritz in the semifinals.
Recall: In August, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) issued its decision regarding world number one Jannik Sinner’s case. It was determined that the Italian unintentionally came into contact with the substance. However, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) plans to appeal this decision.
