Despite the fact that the Club World Cup is just under three months away, the lineup of participants has undergone changes. However, this could have been avoided.
Details: After a thorough review, FIFA discovered that Mexican clubs León and Pachuca do not meet the criteria, which states that two participating clubs cannot be owned by the same entity. As a result, León, where James Rodríguez plays, has been disqualified from the tournament.
It is not yet known who will replace the club, as FIFA promises to make a statement later. However, León has already released a statement asserting that the club operates autonomously in all respects and reserves the right to challenge this decision in court.
Reminder: León was set to face Flamengo, Espérance de Tunis, and Chelsea in the Club World Cup.
