The United States is the most decorated country in the history of the Summer Olympic Games. However, since Andre Ward’s gold medal win at the Athens Games in 2004, Americans have not been able to secure a first-place finish in boxing. The closest they came was at the Tokyo 2020 Games, where Richard Torrez, Keyshawn Davis, and Duke Ragan reached the finals in heavyweight, lightweight, and featherweight divisions, respectively, but all fell short of gold.

It is also worth noting that the future of boxing as an Olympic sport remains uncertain. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) suspended the International Boxing Association (IBA) due to issues with funding and corruption among judges, challenges faced under the leadership of Russian Umar Kremlev. Reuters reported that in 2023, a new organization called World Boxing was established with 37 members, but it has yet to be recognized by the IOC.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding boxing at the 2028 Olympics, American blogger and professional boxer Jake Paul has expressed his desire to compete in the Games.

“I will compete in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. I’m tired of waiting for another gold for Team USA. I will be there. 2028, the Olympics, gold medal—you’re the first to hear it,” he announced during a conversation with Betr.

It's worth mentioning that the 2028 Olympics will take place in Jake Paul’s hometown. The blogger was born in a suburb of Los Angeles, the very city that will host the upcoming Games.

At the current Olympic Games in Paris, the Americans have won only one boxing medal. In the welterweight division (up to 71kg), Omari Jones shared the bronze with Britain’s Lewis Richardson.

As of now, the United States leads the overall medal count with 33 gold, 39 silver, and 39 bronze medals.
