Borussia's sporting director Lars Ricken finally put an end to the prolonged negotiations in an interview with Sky Germany:
"We couldn’t agree on a new contract," the official confirmed succinctly. Despite the club's desire to keep their leader, either financial demands or the player's sporting ambitions led both sides to part ways.
Brandt has been playing for the "Black and Yellows" since 2019, becoming one of the league's most creative players and a fan favorite at Signal Iduna Park.
It's worth noting that this season, the German midfielder has made 31 appearances for Dortmund across all competitions, scoring 10 goals and providing 2 assists. Transfermarkt values the player at €20 million.
Reminder: Borussia Dortmund wants to extend the contract of Nico Schlotterbeck. However, the player himself is aware of interest from Real Madrid.
