Gattuso failed to break Italy’s streak of unsuccessful World Cup qualifying campaigns.
Details: The legendary former Italy striker, 51-year-old Alessandro Del Piero, reacted emotionally after the Azzurri once again missed out on the 2026 World Cup, crashing out against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

According to Del Piero, the current Italian national team has become a third-rate side:
“Italy has now become a laughingstock in world football. Missing three World Cups in a row is truly inexcusable. How can a country like ours miss an entire series of World Cups? Four-time world champions haven't scored at a World Cup for 20 years. We used to have world-class players, but today’s squad is decidedly mediocre.” Del Piero stated.
The last time Italy played at the World Cup was in 2014, but even then the Azzurri struggled, failing to get out of the group stage after finishing third in a group with Costa Rica, England, and Uruguay.
