According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Serie D referee Pietro Marinoni has been temporarily suspended by the Italian Referees Association (AIA) after the Milan prosecutor's office launched an investigation into illegal betting involving 12 Serie A players.

Marinoni, hailing from the same town as Sandro Tonali, played a crucial role in involving footballers in gambling. The prosecutor discovered that they often approached him for organizing bets. Despite officially having a low income, the referee owns a luxurious Porsche Macan, which raises suspicions.
Tonali and Fagioli have already faced penalties for betting on football matches, but there is no evidence that the other players involved in the investigation placed bets specifically on football. The FIGC prosecutor awaits documents from Milan authorities for further investigation. If there are no football-related bets, player disqualifications are unlikely. On the criminal side, the maximum fine for those involved is 250 euros.
